San José del Cabo
Art, history and calm
San José del Cabo is the older, more tranquil sister town of Los Cabos, known for its colonial center, art galleries and relaxed pace. The cobbled streets around Plaza Mijares are lined with restored adobe buildings, boutiques and some of the best restaurants in the region. It is the ideal base for travelers who want charm, culture and calm — while still being minutes from the beach and the airport.
Why stay in San José del Cabo
San José del Cabo offers a slower, more authentic side of Los Cabos. It suits couples, families and anyone who prefers galleries, good food and quiet evenings over crowds and nightlife. It is also the closest town to the airport, making arrivals and departures effortless. Our villas here put you near the historic center and the coast while keeping the peace and privacy of a residential setting.
Things to do
Wander the Gallery District and time your visit for the Thursday evening Art Walk (in season), explore the historic center and Plaza Mijares, go birdwatching at the San José estuary, or play a round at one of the nearby championship golf courses. The town is also a gateway to nearby Flora Farms and the wine and food scene.
Beaches
Playa Hotelera runs along the San José coastline and is beautiful for long walks and sunrise, though parts have strong surf. For swimming, the calm, Blue-Flag beaches of the Tourist Corridor — like Palmilla — are a short drive away.
Dining
San José del Cabo is the culinary capital of Los Cabos, famous for farm-to-table restaurants, contemporary Mexican cuisine and intimate dining rooms. Many of the region’s standout chefs are based here. Our concierge can secure hard-to-get reservations or arrange a private chef at your villa.
Getting there
San José del Cabo is the closest town to Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) — roughly a 15 to 20 minute drive. We can arrange a private transfer to your door.
